There are several diabetic dessert recipes containing nutritional needs of diabetic patients. Of course, we all know that desserts contain a great amount of sugar that is dangerous to diabetic people. Our common understanding about diabetes is that sugar must be avoided completely. However, better knowledge about diabetes provides patients more options to their diets. That is what diabetic dessert recipes are for.

Proper maintenance of sugar in the body is needed by diabetic people and blood glucose level should always be kept at a minimum rate. The aim of diabetic dessert recipes is to keep the blood glucose on course and this can only be done by putting small portions of sweets instead of carbohydrates in your meals. Also, the use of insulin should be done properly because insulin is needed by diabetic patients in processing sugar in the body to stay healthy. Below is a basic brownie dessert recipe for diabetics:

  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup of sugar or equivalent of sugar substitute
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of applesauce
  • 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, or pecans lightly toasted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
To begin with, pre-heat the oven up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix cocoa, oil and applesauce in a mixer until evenly combined. Add the sugar or sugar substitute and then stir thoroughly until dissolved then afterwards put in the eggs and the vanilla extract.

Proceed with mixing the baking powder and flour together in a bowl and then slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet part of the batter. Pour in the brownie batter on a floured and greased pan and then put the toasted nuts on top. Bake for at least 25 minutes or when a toothpick inserted into the brownie comes clean. Once done, let it cool for several minutes.

Diabetes is a very serious disease. However, it can still be managed and treated. Proper diet is needed for the proper regulation of blood sugar and the goal of diabetic dessert recipes is help diabetic people achieve this.
