Sorbets: The Non-Fat Iced Dessert

You are in a romantic candle-lit dinner date one lovely evening. Everything’s perfectly mushy with you sharing a formal full course meal dinner with your dream guy, sipping perfectly chilled wine and with violin music on the background. You’re both having a delightful conversation then suddenly when the dessert was served you politely refuse the final course leaving your date not to eat his dessert as well or subliminally make him hurry to finish his serving fast or worst get him turned off by you.

Skipping desserts could be a perfect date spoiler. Desserts are actually part of the whole dating process as it helps stimulate chemicals in your body that sets you to feel more romantically in love atmosphere. But more women seem to dread the fattening effect of tongue-friendly sweets more than the thought of losing a prospective lifetime partner. This, however, need not to happen if they choose to order sorbets in the menu.

Sorbets, believe it or not, are non-fat frozen dessert similar to sherbets, which is a frozen sweetened fruit juice, minus the milk. It is the most fitting dessert for the diet-conscious sweet-toothed women. In fact, it is a trendy choice for night partygoers since the dessert drink could be served with alcohol, which gives the dessert a softer and creamier texture.

Sorbets are dubbed as the first sorbet iced dessert with birth dating back the first century A.D. when Roman Emperor Nero first concocted the dessert. According to folklore, the emperor got the idea when one day palace runner were passing hand over hand buckets of snow to the banquet hall and thought of mixing it with honey and wine. The concoction was later passed to generations and places. The frozen dessert is believed to have reached France in 1500s but only served to royalties. It only hit the streets of Paris two a century later and spread to England and the rest of Europe.

Sorbets can be easily can be easily concocted at home. Just remember that its main ingredient is the fruit. Start by boiling a crushed fruit and sugar to create a syrup. After letting the syrup to naturally cool down at room temperature, stir it in fruit juice, wine, or liquor then place it in the freezer. Stir the mixture every 20 minutes until a finely crushed ice texture is achieved.

Sorbets are truly an unbelievable fat-free sweet treat. Since mainly made from fruits, the dessert is also healthy. So enjoy!
